TALKING ABOUT THE COUNT

Happy Halloween Frognation! Thanks for reading these.
Hey y'all, THE COUNT released last month, and before I knew it, life got busy and it was.. already halloween? So, I'm finally writing my post about it to move on to other things. It was both nothing I expected and everything I wanted, which is beautiful!
THE COUNT is an album, where, as Bateman said on another interview off-site, they tried to have as much fun in the limited time they had in the studio. It's completely self aware that the concept of the album is silly and off-putting. THE COUNT also brought some amazing piano performances we've been wanting for a really long time. Nearly every song uses it as an instrument, which has me looking forward to what they'll do for the rest of the variations to change things up.
SAX-A-MA-PHONE VAR. XII had me head over heels when it released, it completely flipped what I thought the song was going to sound like from the KEXP performances. The album takes a lot of inspiration from other genres like Hip-Hop keeps Frog's signature twang, it was probably the most insane album to listen on release, partly because this is Frog's most explicit album yet.
To give every song a little bit of attention, I'm going to go through them one by one and give them one sentence of what I think about it.
BITTEN BY MY LOVE
It's a fun halloween song, an intriguing first single, and I love the synths!
SAX-A-MA-PHONE
Holy shit, Frog still got it.
GIRL WITH A PROBLEM
I've come to see this is a fan favorite in the Frogcord, and I always love the part at the end with Steve.
COME COME COME
That drop hits literally every time, turn that shit up.
SPANISH ARMADA
I don't listen to it much anymore, but I have to give it credit for being the brave one without any piano, it's a fun one too!
BARUCH ATTA (IN THE MIDDLE SONG)
Topped the album for me, always dancing to this feeling like a new man.
MARIAH
I'm pushin' 40
CHELSEA PIERS
Haven't given much attention to this one but the percussion in this one always gets me!
CAROLINE
A weirdly emotional song from the bunch that perfectly describes talking about the idea of making plans with someone you used to be close to but never actually following up.
WITH ANOTHER GUY
Beautiful piano performance, I believe this song is likely all improv. I think it's great, Frog is great at closers.
The variations have Frog testing out new ideas with every set they send us. I'm excited to see what they'll bring next if the Variations saga continues! Thank you for reading the post and I'll see you all next time I post on here.
